South Carolina Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Care is looking for an Internal Medicine Technician to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.
As an Internal Medicine Technician, you’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.
You will work alongside our Board-Certified Internist utilizing state-of-the-art equipment that includes:
· Ultrasound
· CT
· Radioactive Iodine (I-131)
· Endoscopy (Flexible/Rigid)
Assist with medical interventions including:
· Bronchoscopy
· GI Endoscopy
· Feeding Tube placement
· Colonoscopy
· Laparoscopy procedures
· Joint Taps
· Bone Marrow Aspirates
Role Responsibilities:
  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
  •  Assist in diagnostic procedures, including radiographs, ultrasound, endoscopy, CT, and advanced imaging.
  • Perform sample collection (blood, urine, feces, aspirates, etc.), laboratory testing, and proper specimen handling.
  •  Communicate effectively and educate clients on the following:
  •  Individualized pet health concerns
  •  Patient care
  •  Treatment plans recommended by the Internist
  •  Discharge instructions.
  •  Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems and treatment plans.
  •  Maintaining feeding tubes
  •  Obtain relevant health history and information from clients.
  •  Place IV catheters, administer medications (oral, IV, SQ, IM), and advanced venipuncture (PICC/Central lines).
  •  Manage fluid therapy and transfusions (Blood and Plasma).
  •  Monitor and support hospitalized patients with chronic and acute conditions.
  •  Perform anesthetic induction, intubation, anesthetic monitoring, anesthetic troubleshooting, extubation, and anesthetic recovery.
  •  Perform immobilization sedation along with monitoring and recovery
  •  Maintain cleanliness and organization in exam and treatment areas.
  •  Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
  •  Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
The Ideal Candidate:
● 2-4 years of clinical veterinary experience, with at least 1-2 years of clinical experience in Specialty medicine, Internal Medicine preferred
● An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities
● Self-motivated, detailed-oriented individual who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay rate starting at $20/hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
